The protection relay is provided with an RJ-45 front port on the LHMI. This connector is mainly used for configuration and setting purposes. The front and rear port IP addresses and the corresponding subnet masks can be set via the LHMI. The front port has a factory default IP address 192.168.0.254, and it also provides DHCP server to assign an IP address for the connected computer. The rear Ethernet interface has a factory default IP address 192.168.2.10 when the complete protection relay is delivered.
Different communication ports are available via optional communication modules. Ethernet RJ-45 and optical Ethernet LC are the two rear port Ethernet communication options. Rear port Ethernet is intended for station bus communication. Communication protocols used via Ethernet ports are IEC 61850-8-1, IEC 61850-9-2 LE, DNP3 TCP/IP, Modbus TCP/IP and IEC 60870-5-104. Optical ST-type glass fiber serial and RS-485/RS-232 twisted pair can also be used for rear port communication. Protocols available for serial communication are Modbus RTU/Modbus ASCII, DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-103.
Ethernet ports
The protection relay allows the use of a secondary IP address for the station ports on the communication modules COM8...COM10, COM15...COM18, COM31...34 and COM37. This secondary IP network is assigned to a single Ethernet port and can be used to make separate networks for different communication protocols or, for example, a separate service network for configuration purposes. Multicast station/bus communication, such as IEC 61850-9-2 LE sampled values and GOOSE, is only supported on the Network 1 interface. The parameters for setting the secondary IP network are located under .

The IP address for Network 2 is disabled by default settings, and all Ethernet ports are assigned to the same IP address used in the Network 1 address menu . If Network 2 is taken into use by the setting Enable="True" (requires reboot), the interlink port X3 of the COM module is assigned to this second network, using the IP address and subnet parameters in the Network 2 address menu .
